Ray Flynn Shares His Top Ten Events to Watch at the 115th Millrose Games

The 115th Millrose Games is finally here! The most iconic indoor track & field event in the world will take place this Saturday, February 11th at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory. As always, the Millrose Games will feature top-quality competition at every level: Youth, High School, Collegiate, Professional, Open, and Masters.

With so many spectacular athletes in the building, it is a challenge just to know where to focus one’s attention. Ray Flynn, the Millrose Games Meet Director and Irish Record Holder in the Mile, is here to help with his top ten storylines for the afternoon.

RAY FLYNN’S TOP 10 STORYLINES:

1- Women’s 300m (5:16 PM). Abby Steiner has her eyes on the American Record of 35.71 after opening her season with a 50.59 400m in Arkansas. The World Record of 35.45, tied at Millrose in 2018 by Shaunae Miller-Uibo, is also within shouting distance. Jenna Prandini and Brittany Brown will look to challenge Steiner for the win.

2- Men’s 60m (4:23 PM). World record holder Christian Coleman is looking for his second straight Millrose victory. Standing in his way is Noah Lyles, 200m World Champion and one of the most electric athletes on the planet. This race is a true clash of titans.

3- Men’s and Women’s Shot Put (4:26 PM). Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs, the two best shot putters in the world, will renew their rivalry from the center of the infield once again. The women’s shot put returns to Millrose for the first time since 2003, and World Champion Chase Ealey is the one to beat.

4- Men’s 3000m (4:59 PM). This race is as deep as it gets. Geordie Beamish and Cooper Teare return after placing first and second last year, but the man in form is Woody Kincaid, fresh off an American Record in the 5000m. Olympic 1500m Bronze Medalist Josh Kerr may have the highest upside of anyone in the race. Joe Klecker, Luis Grijalva, and Nico Young all figure to contend as well in this absolutely loaded field.

5- Women’s Pole Vault (3:26 PM). This competition features the last two Olympic Gold Medalists, Katie Moon and Katerina Stefanidi. Will Moon continue her run of dominance over the past several years, or can Stefanidi return to the top?

6- Women’s 600m (5:31 PM). Ajee’ Wilson is the Queen of the Millrose Games. She is a seven-time Millrose winner, and she has won 14 straight races indoors and 17 straight at The Armory, with the latter streak dating back to 2013. Wilson is the second-fastest woman in history in this event outdoors, and she will certainly be looking for another fast time this weekend.

7- Women’s 3000m (4:38 PM). Alicia Monson is the star attraction in this race, and she may be chasing the American Record. Many others in the field will also be looking for fast times, including indoor 5000m American Record holder Elise Cranny, and collegiate sensation Katelyn Tuohy, who just set the NCAA record in the mile.

8- Women’s 60m (4:18 PM). Another incredibly deep race, with the top two 100m finishers at last year’s US Outdoor Championships in Melissa Jefferson and Aleia Hobbs, as well as the reigning Silver and Bronze Medalists at the World Indoor Championships in Mikiah Brisco and Marybeth Sant-Price.

9- High School Standouts. Multiple High School Records could go down at Millrose. Shawnti Jackson will be looking to lower her own 60m mark that she set at Millrose last year. Twin sisters Amanda Moll and Hana Moll are both capable of setting a new standard in the pole vault. Sub-four miler Connor Burns could go even faster in the Men’s Invitational Mile. Be sure to watch out for Sophia Gorriaran in the 600m as well.

And last but certainly not least:

10- The Rudin Wanamaker Miles (Women’s race 5:42 PM, Men’s race 5:51 PM). Laura Muir looks to set another mile record in the Big Apple after her performance at 5th Avenue last September. Her main challengers include Sinclaire Johnson, Jemma Reekie, and Josette Andrews.

On the men’s side, no fewer than four national records could be on the table. Defending champion Ollie Hoare will likely need to lower his own Australian Record to win, as Yared Nuguse and Cole Hocker lead the way for the Americans. Mario Garcia Romo has a strong chance to take down the Spanish Record, and Sam Tanner may hope to do the same for New Zealand. With such quality and depth, the final race of the day could be one for the history books.

Ajee’ Wilson to take on Athing Mu in Highly Anticipated 600m Matchup

After months of anticipation, the 115th Millrose Games is now just over a week away. The best athletes from all over the world will be in attendance at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory for a thrilling day of action-packed track & field, scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 11th.

Among the many events to look forward to, a pair of women’s races on the infield straightaway could be among the most explosive of the day.

The Women’s 60m will feature a showdown between Melissa Jefferson and Aleia Hobbs, the top two finishers in the 100m at last year’s USATF Outdoor Championships. Both women ran on the Team USA 4x100m relay that won Gold at the World Championships in Eugene. They will both be challenged by English Gardner, who is the tenth-fastest woman in the history of the 100m, and a former Olympic Gold Medalist on the relay as well.

Also in the race is high school sensation Shawnti Jackson (Creedmoor, NC), who is returning to the pro field looking to improve on the HS record of 7.18 seconds that she set at Millrose last year in a third-place effort.

The Women’s 60m Hurdles is led by former 100m hurdles world record holder Keni Harrison. Harrison won this event at Millrose in 2020, and she now looks to return to the top. She will face a deep field that includes 2016 Olympic Silver Medalist and 2019 World Champion Nia Ali, heptathlon ace Anna Hall, and three additional Olympians in Anna Cockrell, Devynne Charlton, and Cindy Sember.

As a reminder, the sprint action on the men’s side is not to be missed either. The Men’s 60m will see a clash between three of the very best in the world in Christian Coleman, Noah Lyles, and Ronnie Baker.

Moving up slightly in distance, the Men’s 400m will feature a number of top sprint stars over two laps. Jereem Richards is the reigning World Indoor Champion in the 400m for Trinidad & Tobago, and the 2017 World Championships Bronze Medalist in the 200m as well. Michael Cherry is another athlete to watch, as he looks to return to the form that saw him lead Team USA to Olympic Gold in the 4x400m relay, as is Brandon Miller, a rising star in the 800m who will drop down in distance for this race.

The Women’s 600m was recently announced, with World and Olympic Champion Athing Mu serving as the headliner for both the race and the entire meet. Mu will be challenged by a late addition, the one and only Ajee’ Wilson, one of the most decorated athletes in Millrose Games history.

A seven-time Millrose winner, Wilson has not lost a race at The Armory since 2013, a streak which remains alive after Wilson’s victory in the 1000m at the Dr. Sander Invitational last Saturday. Mu could be looking to attack the 600m world record that was just broken by Keely Hodgkinson over the weekend, but Wilson is sure to give her everything that she can handle in this race.

“It was exciting to start the year with such a competitive race last Saturday at The Armory at an off distance for me,” said Wilson. “I'll race Boston, and then I am really looking forward to another good one at Millrose!

America’s Top High School Athletes Will Take On the Pros at the 115th Millrose Games on Saturday, February 11th

The 115th Millrose Games will feature absolutely loaded fields across the board, from the youth to professional levels, and everything in between. As usual, the High School events will be jam-packed with the top prep talent from all across America looking to make a statement on the big stage. However, a select few young superstar athletes are taking on an even bigger challenge, competing against the professionals at the most prestigious indoor track & field event in the world.

The Millrose Games will take place on Saturday, February 11th at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory.

Last year, Shawnti Jackson (Creedmoor, NC) delivered one of the highlights of the Millrose Games, placing third in the professional Women’s 60m and setting a new HS record of 7.18 seconds in the process. A year later, Jackson has only gotten faster. She recently set another HS record in the 300m, running 36.63 to take down the record previously held by none other than Sydney McLaughlin, the 400m Hurdles world record holder and perhaps the most dominant athlete in the world today.

Jackson will take another crack at the 300m at the Dr. Sander Invitational on January 28th at The Armory before dropping back down to the 60m at the Millrose Games. An extremely versatile sprinter, Jackson collected a medal of every color at last year’s World Junior Championships, taking Gold and Silver as part of the 4x400m and 4x100m relays, and earning Bronze in the individual 100m. At Millrose, Jackson will face off against a stacked field that includes Melissa Jefferson and Aleia Hobbs, the top two finishers in the 100m at last year’s U.S. Championships, and she will look to lower her national record even further.

When it comes to range, no high school athlete is more dominant over all sorts of distances than Sophia Gorriaran (Providence, RI). Running everything from the 55m to cross country, Gorriaran is currently US #1 in the 500m, 800m, and 1 Mile. She also handed Jackson her only defeat all season in the 500m.

Like Jackson, Gorriaran will tune up for Millrose at the Dr. Sander Invitational, where she will race the 1000m. She will then line up for the 600m two weeks later, an event where she holds the outdoor HS record. Gorriaran will race several of the best middle distance runners in the world, including World and Olympic Champion Athing Mu. The world record is likely to come under threat in this race, and it will be thrilling to see how fast Gorriaran can run as she tries to keep pace with the best of the best.

Amanda Moll (Olympia, WA) was already the HS record holder in the pole vault indoors and outdoors, before taking the event to new heights. On January 14th, Moll cleared 15 feet, 1.5 inches, improving her best mark by ten centimeters and becoming the first prep athlete to go over 15 feet. In the same competition, Amanda’s sister Hana Moll also surpassed the previous national record, soaring 14 feet, 10 inches. Hana is the World Junior Champion, and she placed first in the high school division at last year’s Millrose Games, with Amanda taking second.

The Moll sisters will level up this year, taking on the professional field at Millrose, which will feature reigning World and Olympic Champion Katie Moon, as well as former Olympic Gold Medalist Katerina Stefanidi. While there is no telling which sister may be better on any given day, Amanda and Hana are both more than capable of mixing it up with anyone in the world.

Last June, Connor Burns (Ashland, MO) became the 15th high school athlete to break the legendary four-minute barrier in the mile, running 3:58.83 to etch his name in the history books. Now a senior, Burns looks to continue lowering his mark, and he will have a terrific chance to do so at the Millrose Games in the Men’s Invitational Mile. This race will feature numerous professional and top collegiate runners including Eric Avila, Reed Brown, and former sub-four high schooler Gary Martin, serving as an exciting appetizer for the Rudin Men’s Wanamaker Mile later in the afternoon.

The Millrose Games is a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meet. With the highest-level competition at the youth, high school, collegiate, club, and professional levels, there is truly something for everyone at the Millrose Games.

Olympic and World Champion Athing Mu Headlines Spectacular Women’s 600m

The 115th Millrose Games will take place in just three weeks, scheduled for Saturday, February 11th at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory. Dozens of Olympians and National Champions will be displaying their talents on the track and in the field, and perhaps no event will be more anticipated than the Women’s 600m, starring Athing Mu, one of the true superstars in all of athletics.

Mu is the reigning World and Olympic Champion in the 800m, and she set the outdoor American record of 1:55.04. Just 20 years old, Mu is the youngest woman to ever hold both World and Olympic titles in any individual event. A phenomenally dominant and consistent athlete, Mu has won every single race that she has completed since March 2021. Mu has a second Olympic Gold Medal as part of the 4x400m relay, and she is a three-time National Champion and two-time NCAA champion in her one year at Texas A&M.

In 2019, Mu won her first national title in the 600m, running 1:23.57 as a high school junior. This mark remains the senior American Record, World Junior Record, and the second-fastest performance in indoor history. As she returns to the three-lap distance, the World Record of 1:23.44 held by Olga Kotlyarova looks to be in major jeopardy if Mu attacks the race from the gun.

“The women’s 600m will be one of the highlights of this year’s Millrose Games, and we are delighted to welcome Athing back to the track she grew up on,” said Millrose Games Meet Director Ray Flynn.

However, this race will be no coronation, as Mu will have to contend with several of the other best middle distance runners in the world. Natoya Goule is a two-time Olympian in the 800m, and she holds the Jamaican Records indoors and outdoors. Goule is a Pan American Games Champion, Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist, and she won three NCAA titles at LSU and Clemson. Goule placed fifth in the final at the most recent World Championships.

Other athletes to watch for include:

  • Shamier Little, the 2015 World Silver Medalist in the 400m hurdles, and the fifth-fastest woman in the history of the event. Little will look to continue testing herself in a flat event over a slightly longer distance, after opening her season with a world-leading 600m time of 1:24.65 last weekend.

  • Olivia Baker, a World Indoor Championships qualifier in the 800m and an 11-time All-American at Stanford.

  • High school standout Sophia Gorriaran, an Olympic Trials qualifier in the 800m who holds the HS National Record in the outdoor 600m.

As always, the Millrose Games will feature the absolute best athletes in the sport, including dozens of Olympians and world champions. Some of the big names already announced include Chase Ealey, Ollie Hoare, Cole Hocker, Bryce Hoppel, Clayton Murphy, Laura Muir, Christian Coleman, Noah Lyles, Alicia Monson, Konstanze Klosterhalfen, Abby Steiner, Jenna Prandini, Geordie Beamish, Cooper Teare, Josh Kerr, Katie Moon, Sandi Morris, Katerina Stefanidi, Ryan Crouser, and Joe Kovacs, with more still to come.

World Champion Chase Ealey Leads Women’s Shot Put Field

The anticipation continues to build for the 115th Millrose Games, now just three and a half weeks away. At previous editions of the Millrose Games, spectators at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory have been treated to a shot put showdown from the center of the infield featuring Ryan Crouser and Joe Kovacs, the top two male shot putters in the world. Crouser and Kovacs will again return this year, plus for the first time they will be joined by an equally loaded field in the Women’s Shot Put, starring the defending World Champion Chase Ealey.

Ealey won her first world title on home soil in Eugene with a winning throw of 67 feet, 3 inches, just one quarter of an inch off of her personal best. She capped off 2022 by winning the Diamond League title as well, after earning the silver medal at the World Indoor Championships earlier in the year. Ealey is a four-time National Champion, and she now looks to add a Millrose Games victory to her rapidly growing resume.

“I am really excited to have the Millrose Games as my first competition in the U.S. as the World Champion,” said Ealey. “I hope that with the success of the male and female competition, people will love our event indoors!”

Three other world-class throwers will look to challenge Ealey for the win, including the other two members of Team USA in Eugene.

  • Maggie Ewen is a two-time finalist at the outdoor World Championships, placing ninth in Eugene and fourth in Doha. She won the Diamond League title in 2021, and she took gold at the 2018 NACAC Championships. Ewen is a two-time U.S. National Champion, as well as a two-time NCAA Champion while at Arizona State University.

  • Jessica Woodard placed eighth in Eugene, marking her first appearance at the World Championships. Woodard also placed second at the NACAC Championships, and she was a six-time All-American at the University of Oklahoma.

  • Sarah Mitton of Canada placed fourth at the World Championships, just one spot off the podium. Mitton also won a pair of gold medals in international competition last year at the Commonwealth Games and the NACAC Championships, and she represented Canada at the Tokyo Olympics.

As always, the Millrose Games will feature the absolute best athletes in the sport, including dozens of Olympians and world champions. Some of the big names already announced include Ollie Hoare, Cole Hocker, Bryce Hoppel, Clayton Murphy, Laura Muir, Christian Coleman, Noah Lyles, Alicia Monson, Konstanze Klosterhalfen, Abby Steiner, Jenna Prandini, Geordie Beamish, Cooper Teare, Josh Kerr, Katie Moon, Sandi Morris, and Katerina Stefanidi, with more still to come.

Defending Champion Ollie Hoare Headlines Rudin Men’s Wanamaker Mile

The 115th Millrose Games will take place on Saturday, February 11th, exactly one month from today, at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory. As always, the world’s most historic indoor track & field event will conclude with the running of the Rudin Men’s Wanamaker Mile, which will feature defending champion Ollie Hoare looking to win the trophy for a second consecutive year.

The Millrose Games is extremely honored that the Rudin Family will be the sponsor of the Wanamaker Miles. Over the past one hundred years, the Rudin Family has become one of New York City’s largest private real estate companies and a generous supporter of running. Jack and Lewis Rudin were the first sponsors of the TCS New York City Marathon, and their children and grandchildren have carried on the legacy, supporting the sport throughout the five boroughs.

“The Rudin family is honored to sponsor the men’s Wanamaker Mile, in addition to the women’s race, and welcome athletes from around the world to New York to participate in the sport’s most competitive mile in the United States,” said Bill Rudin, Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Rudin. “As a founding sponsor of the New York City Marathon, as well as previous Millrose Games events, running is extremely special to our family and this terrific city. We are looking forward to cheering on the athletes whose incredible talent will be on display next month at The Armory.”

Hoare set the indoor Australian record in the process of winning the 2022 Wanamaker Mile in 3:50.83, one of four national records that he currently holds. Outdoors, he won the 1500m Gold Medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, setting the meet record in that event as well. Hoare was an Olympic finalist in Tokyo, as well as an NCAA Champion and eight-time All-American at the University of Wisconsin.

“I’m thrilled to be able to come back and defend my Wanamaker title,” said Hoare. “It will be great to be out there competing at one of my favorite mile races in the world.”

Many of the world’s top milers will be eager for the chance to knock Hoare off the throne.

  • Cole Hocker is the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials 1500m Champion, and he placed sixth in the Olympic Final. He is the reigning National Champion in the indoor 1500m and 3000m, and a former three-time NCAA Champion.

  • Mario Garcia Romo placed fourth in the 1500m at last year’s outdoor World Championship final. He is the defending Spanish Champion in the event, as well as an NCAA Champion and the Bronze Medalist at the European Championships.

  • Yared Nuguse was the fastest American over 1500m in 2022, and he qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.

  • Eliud Kipsang of Kenya and the University of Alabama holds the NCAA Record in the 1500m with his best time of 3:33.74.

  • Johnny Gregorek sports a personal best of 3:49.98 in the mile, and he reached the final at the 2017 World Championships.

  • Sam Tanner is a three-time National Champion for New Zealand, and he placed sixth in the 1500m at the Commonwealth Games.

  • Josh Thompson was ranked #1 in the US for 1500m in 2022 by Track and Field News.

Also in the field is World Championships semi-finalist Neil Gourley of Great Britain, 3:50 miler Sam Prakel, and two-time U.S. Champion Drew Hunter. The winner of the mile at the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge on Saturday, January 28th will also be guaranteed a spot on the starting line, adding to the intrigue.

“This year’s Rudin Men’s Wanamaker Mile field truly represents the entire world, with many of the greatest milers from the USA, Spain, Australia, Kenya, and New Zealand carrying on this great mile tradition at the Millrose Games!” said Ray Flynn, Millrose Games Meet Director.

As always, the Millrose Games will feature the absolute best athletes in the sport, including dozens of Olympians and world champions. Some of the big names already announced include Bryce Hoppel, Clayton Murphy, Laura Muir, Christian Coleman, Noah Lyles, Alicia Monson, Konstanze Klosterhalfen, Abby Steiner, Jenna Prandini, Geordie Beamish, Cooper Teare, Josh Kerr, Katie Moon, Sandi Morris, Katerina Stefanidi, Ryan Crouser, and Joe Kovacs, with many more still to come.

About the Rudin Family

The Rudin Family has long supported running in New York City and is best known for the Samuel Rudin Trophy, presented since 1976 to the winning male and female runners in the TCS New York City Marathon. Samuel Rudin was an accomplished runner and member of the Class of 1918 at City College, not far from The Armory in Washington Heights where the Millrose Games takes place. His sons, Jack and Lewis, honored their late father by becoming the first sponsors of the five borough New York City Marathon. Now their sons, Eric and Bill, along with their children and grandchildren, carry on this tradition by sponsoring the 115th Millrose Games and its most storied event, the Rudin Wanamaker Miles. The Rudin Family’s real estate holdings are 16 commercial office buildings containing approximately 10.5 million square feet of space and 17 apartment buildings comprising over four million square feet of residences.
